A fire on Tuesday night caused an estimated $30,000 in damage to a North Topeka residence, authorities said. The blaze was reported around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at a single-story house at 311 N.W. Fairchild. When fire crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence, said Topeka Fire Marshal Todd Harrison. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other nearby structures. Harrison said fire crews conducted a primary search inside the burning residence and found no one was inside. Witnesses told fire officials that the occupants were able to get out of the house before crews arrived. A Topeka fire investigator was called to the scene. A preliminary investigation indicated the cause of the fire was undetermined. The blaze remains under investigation.
