Fire officials say the man who suffered 2nd and 3rd-degree burns in a van fire last Wednesday has succumbed to his injuries. The Topeka Fire Department identified the victim as Russell Harris, 54. Officials say Harris suffered life-threatening burns Wednesday morning in Topeka's Little Russia neighborhood. When firefighters arrived, they found a minivan engulfed in flames behind a home in the 561 of NE Sardou Ave. Authorities say Harris managed to escape the vehicle on his own but suffered 2nd and 3rd-degree burns in the process. Fire officials say he was living in the van and using a space heater to stay warm, which likely sparked the blaze.
