The Lafayette Fire Department is spending three of their evenings this summer on the baseball field with them. Both on shift department members and those off-duty are helping out.
"It's a lot of fun. As soon as the guys got here, smiles on our face, smiles on the kid's face and that's what it's all about," said Deputy Fire Chief Jamie Blacker. "It's a good stress relief for us, because with days like yesterday, we had a hard day at the fire house."
Julie Smith is a co-organizer of Tippy Stars. The idea came from wanting to find inclusive activities for two of her children with special needs. From there, a community of those alike joined.
