There are 229 Safe Haven Baby Boxes in the country, and 124 of them are in Indiana. That latest location is at Scott Township and EMS Station 2. That’s at 12845 State Road 57 in Evansville. There will be a blessing on Monday afternoon. Speakers at the event include the Safe Haven Founder and Scott Township Fire Chaplain. Safe Haven boxes are safe places people can surrender a baby. “It’s crucial to have options for mothers in crisis,” said Founder Monica Kelsey. Since 2017, 44 infants have been surrendered in a Baby Box. The National Safe Haven Crisis line has assisted with 150 handoff surrenders. Officials say surrendered babies are adopted by families who have registered as foster to adopt.
