VIDEO: After nine years of serving as the Fort Wayne Fire Department’s Deputy Chief, Adam O’Connor says he has chosen to return to his love of protecting the community as a firefighter. Fire Chief Eric Lahey announced on Friday morning that O’Connor requested to step away from his current role to fill the position of Captain at Fire Station 1 downtown. He will also be moving away from his duties as public information officer, leaders say. “Although many of my responsibilities as Deputy Chief were rewarding, I enjoyed being a firefighter much more,” O’Connor said in a release. “I’d like to finish out my career with the FWFD doing something I really love.” In his time as deputy chief, O’Connor is credited with keeping FWFD’s costs low without affecting quality service, helping with the construction of Fire Station 14, and bringing in new air packs, radios, and fire apparatuses.
