PHOTOS: The Evanston Fire Department held its annual remembrance ceremony for firefighters who lost their life on the job. Mayor Daniel Biss and other city officials along with officers from the Evanston Police Department and residents attend the event at Firefighter’s Park on Maple Avenue. The ceremony remembered Marty Leoni, who died in a house fire on Jackson Avenue in 1985, and William Craig and George Stiles, killed when a wall collapsed as they fought a fire at the Clayton Mark factory in 1905, as well as fallen police officers. Evanston Police Commander Ken Carter spoke during the ceremony, saying fallen firefighters and police officers should be remembered for their ultimate sacrifice to the city. “Their sacrifices are woven into the very fabric of our community,” Carter said.
