Earlier this year, Illinois lawmakers passed a resolution to make Route 113 from Carbon Hill Road to Virginia Street in Coal City the "Dennis M. Neary Memorial Highway. State Senator Sue Rezin and State Representative David Welter said they have been working for nearly six years on the legislation. Chief Neary passed away in October of 2016. Neary was a dedicated and beloved leader within the Coal City Police Department for 35 years and also spent more than 30 years with the Coal City Fire Department. Lisa Neary-Callaway spoke at the event.
