Spring prescribed burning to rid the Idaho Panhandle National Forests (IPNF) from hazardous fuels officially began on Monday, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Due to favorable conditions, multiple prescribed burning projects have been planned throughout the spring months to remove dead and diseased trees and other vegetation. The first project, in which 30 acres in the Robin Hood project northeast of Bonners Ferry will be targeted, will begin on Tuesday, March 19.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, prescribed burning is part of each Ranger District’s annual natural resource management program to reduce hazardous fuels as well as prepare areas for tree planting and improve wildlife forage.
