PHOTOS: Crews continue to battle the Texas Fire, located east of Kendrick on the Latah/Nez Perce County line.
According to a Monday morning update from officials, the fire's total footprint was estimated at 1,565 acres. New, recent mapping of the fire reduced the size estimate by 10 acres from the previous estimate.
Containment increased to 60% as firefighters made significant progress on Sunday securing the fireline. Officials say crews have completed initial mop-up for most of the fire area.
Firefighters assigned to the eastern spot fire completed hose lays three-quarters of the way around the perimeter on Sunday, with engines working in areas where hose cannot be laid.
Also on Sunday, a snag fell down creating visible smoke from the interior of the eastern spot fire. Crews quickly responded and cooled the area with water.
