Meridian is now the first city in Idaho to train with the new Firefighter Air Replenishment System.
FARS is a new system put inside of buildings to deliver an almost endless supply of air to firefighters. The system is typically used in taller or larger buildings, and it cuts out the need for firefighters to carry air canisters up dozens of flights of stairs while on call for a fire.
The Meridian Fire Department hosted a demonstration Wednesday where they showed how effective the new FARS system is and how it'll help enable firefighters in carrying out their duties.
"With the vision of Meridian being the premier community to work, live, and raise a family, it starts with creating safe working and living spaces with the adoption of FARS requirements," said Kris Blume, Meridian fire chief. "This equipment will help ensure the safety of not only our first responders but our residents as well."
