No injuries were reported following a structure fire at a Pahoa eatery Tuesday night. At 8:41 p.m., Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to Pele’s Kitchen, located on Pahoa Village Road. When they arrived on scene, crews found the fire was contained to the restaurant’s attached storage area, 25-by-20-foot, and was 75% involved in flames. Firefighters from three engine companies attacked the fire and a tanker also responded to supply additional water and manpower. Hawai‘i Island police closed Pahoa Village Road until the fire was extinguished and overhauled. No one was found in the structure at the time of the fire. The owner of the business was contacted by HPD. HFD fire inspectors arrived on scene to begin investigations. Officials assess damages at $100,000 and the cause of the blaze is unknown.
