PHOTO/VIDEO: Residents in Waikoloa Village say they're fortunate for two reasons. One, there was relatively low wind over the week of a house fire. Two, the fire was called in within minutes, and Hawaii County Fire Department crews were on scene responding quickly.
Evacuation concerns have been top of mind for many in Waikoloa who say the possible construction of a new roundabout will help not only with safety, but alleviating traffic.
The house that caught fire this week stands out in the middle of Waikoloa Village with already boarded up windows and junk strewn about. It's only a block away from a newly paved evacuation route that was modified in the wake of the Lahaina fire on Maui.
The corner where the blaze ignited in Waikoloa Village is not far from where a fire ignited several years ago.
