Two animals were killed Tuesday morning when flames burned a Waimanalo home.
Around 10:20 a.m., Honolulu Fire Department received a call about the building fire along 41-645 Mekia Street. Some nine units staffed with 34 personnel arrived on scene and began fighting the fire.
Smoke and flames were seen coming from the small, single-story home as firefighters secured a water supply, and began breaking down the blaze.
It was brought under control around 10:55 a.m., and fully extinguished just before 11:30 a.m.
Upon closer inspection, several animals were inside the home including four dogs, one guinea pig and one tortoise. HFD sadly reported one of the dogs and the guinea pig did not survive.
There were no immediate reports of injuries to humans or HFD staff.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
