VIDEO: The Maui Fire Department says a brushfire that forced mandatory evacuations in Wailuku on Monday had at least six different ignition locations. MFD has not yet said if investigators believe this may have been arson or are classifying the case as suspicious. The blaze scorched 4 acres in Piihana and is now fully contained. At the fire’s peak late Monday morning, authorities ordered people in 45 homes to evacuate. As we approach the one-year mark of the Lahaina wildfire, any wildfire triggers anxiety. Maui county leaders say the communication during Monday’s emergency was much better than it was during the Lahaina fire a year ago. Maui’s Emergency Management Agency officials say mandatory evacuations were lifted for the areas that were affected by those brush fires in Wailuku.
