VIDEO: A 33-year-old woman suffered second- and third-degree burns Tuesday after the car she was in plowed into an electric pole in Maili.
The fiery crash triggered an outage that initially impacted about 3,000 customers.
According to Honolulu Police Department, around 2 p.m. Tuesday the woman was speeding down Paakea Road when she lost control and plowed into an electric utility pole.
Her car flipped several times before coming to rest on downed power lines.
First responders said the car was set ablaze, igniting the dry brush around it, and the woman was trapped inside for a time.
Crews were able to put out the fire and remove the woman from the car.
She was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
Officials said the woman suffered second- and third-degree burns and was not wearing a seat belt.
