A man died after going missing during a dive off Makai Pier in the Waimanalo area late Monday night. First responders were called out to the area Monday night just before 11 p.m. According to the report, five friends were diving when one did not resurface. The four friends said they retrieved their missing friend’s dive light but could not find him below the surface. Honolulu Firefighters searched the beaches while a helicopter crew searched from the air. Another crew was launched by boat to help expand the search area. Bystanders on the shore eventually found the missing diver – only identified as an adult male between 30-40 years of age – near Kaupo Beach, pull him to shore, and started CPR. First responders made their way to the bystanders’ location where he was pronounced dead at 12:19 a.m.
