A fire hydrant that was seen spewing out water in Tumon on Friday afternoon was being used by Guam Waterworks Authority personnel to drain a main line.
Christopher Budasi, assistant general manager of Administration and Support at GWA, said the hydrant was used to drain a main line in Tumon Bay that needed to be repaired.
"Once the line was repaired, the crew also used the hydrant to flush the repaired line," he said.
Hydrant flushing is used to clean the repaired line by removing sediment that gets in during the repairs, he added.
