Guam Regional Medical City is helping the Guam Fire Department quickly identify the type of care patients in emergency transport require with a donation of glucometers and supplies to help medics distinguish between signs of stroke and hypoglycemia symptoms.
“With (GRMC’s) donation, that will allow us to provide glucometers for all our response vehicles, which is a huge force multiplier for us because now, regardless of what unit shows up first at a particular call, if that equipment is needed, (the glucometers) happen to be available instead of having to wait for the unit that has them to get there, so patient care starts much faster,” GFD Fire Chief Dan Stone stated in a news release issued by GRMC.
The Dededo hospital’s donation includes lancets and glucose strips, which will be supplemented as needed. The medical partners also are planning paramedic training for emergency care.
