VIDEO/PHOTOS: East Point firefighters worked well into the evening on Wednesday, hitting hot spots on a massive townhome fire.
Crews got the alarm around 3:23 p.m. after a 911 caller reported seeing heavy smoke and fire coming from one of the buildings along Carriage House Court SW at the Park at Galaway apartments, located off Washington Road near Interstate 285.
Firefighters arrived to find a building on fire and quickly got to work, attacking the blaze from the outside.
The fire caused extensive damage to the structure, burning away and collapsing the roof and gutting the interior. Other units received water damage. In all, firefighters say 12 residences were impacted.
While at the scene, a second building caught fire, along Windy Rush Road. Five units were damaged by the fire and water.
