The city of Smyrna hosted a ceremony over the weekend to celebrate the opening of a new facility replacing its oldest fire station. This new building at 642 Concord Road replaces a one-story station built in the 1970s. Deputy Fire Chief Brian Marcos said the new building is two stories and includes about 9,000 square feet of space. This station, which was the city’s oldest, only had one bathroom originally designated for men, Marcos said. According to city documents, the old building’s apparatus bay couldn’t accommodate trucks in service. The new building includes restrooms for men and women, a day room and the necessary space for its trucks. City Council members in April 2017 awarded a contract to BM&K Construction, Inc. to build the fire station for $2.7 million.
