A man was burned while trying to put out the flames that had engulfed his home on Friday afternoon. The fire broke out just before 5:15 p.m. on Janet Drive, not far from the intersection of Apalachee Parkway and Capital Circle Southeast. Firefighters were able to get the situation under control relatively quickly, but the structure was still heavily damaged. ”There is significant damage. The trailer pretty much has been gutted,” said TFD Battalion Chief Graham Reid. “I would say that it is a total loss because of the heavy extent of the fire.” Reid said the man was taken from the scene in an ambulance and was later transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville for treatment. There was no word on how severe his burns were. The State Fire Marshal is now investigating the cause of the fire.
