Alachua County Fire Rescue has unveiled their newest life-saving device, a hands-free continuous chest compression machine nicknamed Lucas. We'll give you the exclusive look at how it works. The Lucas device is used when a patient's heart stops and takes the place of paramedics having to physically give chest compressions. “One rescuer usually provides ventilations by blowing in the person's mouth," explained Michel Cowart Assistant Chief of EMS when it comes to chest compressions without Lucas. "The other person stands over their chest and applies compressions at about 100 per minute to be able to make the blood flow throughout the body.” “It's very taxing," said ACFR Rescue Lieutenant Duane Fugate.
