Multiple local fire crews and teams from the Florida Forest Service are working together to mop up a brush fire that sparked in Golden Gate Estates last week. Mopping a fire involves tedious work from firefighters to ensure all hot spots and fires are put out. As of May 18, nearly 50,000 gallons of water has been used during the fight against the aggressive brush fire. The Collier County Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit logged more than 20 flight hours dropping 344 buckets of water on brush fires over six days last week using the agency's Huey. Each bucket holds 240 gallons of water that weighs about 2,000 pounds. A smaller helicopter also helped survey the progression of the fire and provided important information to crews on the ground.
