With approvals in hand from the Fort Myers Beach Board of Fire Commissioners to spend $3.99 million on the purchase of the vacant lots at 2545 and 2555 Estero Blvd. to construct a new fire station adjacent to town hall, Chief Matthew Love said plans are now being formulated on exactly how to use the parcels. The lots that the fire district is closing on (a deal is contingent on site plan approval for the construction of the new station) has more room than the fire department actually needs. Formerly site of Topps Supermarket (which closed in 2018), the large vacant parking lot is currently used at times for overflow parking at town hall meetings. "Our hope is to not need the whole lot," Love said. Love said some ideas for the use of those properties could include putting the fire station in the back and selling the frontage for a supermarket or pharmacy. Love said Station 31 would be sold once its resources are located to the new site.
