A Mill Creek home was heavily damaged Monday evening after catching on fire and spewing flames from its garage area, photos and video show.
Mill Creek Fire Company personnel were dispatched to the community of Highland West at about 7:45 p.m. after receiving a report of smoke in the area, the department said. The initial report gave only a general area for the smoke.
Firefighters who were dispatched to the community began checking for where the smoke was coming from. After "checking a couple of streets," at about 8 p.m., firefighters found a house on fire in the first block of Cavendish Court. Mill Creek Fire Company said "heavy smoke was pouring out of the structure" when firefighters began attacking the blaze. Shortly thereafter, the home "erupted in flames."
"The original dispatch was upgraded to a working structure fire and assistance was provided by Belvedere, Hockessin, Elsmere, Cranston Heights, Five Points and Christiana Fire Companies along with the New Castle County Paramedics," Mill Creek Fire Company said.
