PHOTOS: Local high schoolers were given an up-close look into the world of public safety and emergency service during a five-day course at Quinnipiac University last week.
The inaugural event hosted by the Hamden Fire Department allowed students to gain hands-on experience with first responders, receive CPR and first aid training from certified instructors, and discuss public safety and fire prevention issues, officials said. "Our goal is to create a more resilient community through education and awareness while providing a path for our youth to follow in these noble professions," Hamden Fire Chief Jeffrey Naples said in a statement.
The course, which ran July 15-19, was open to 9th, 10th and 11th grade students at Hamden High School interested in exploring careers in firefighting, law enforcement, emergency medical service and related fields, according to a news release.
