During Wednesday night's thunderstorms, the Milford Operations Center received notification of two homes that were struck by lightning within twenty minutes from one another. The first 911 call came in at 10:48 p.m. for an active live wire burning on the front porch of 70 Grant St. First arriving crews were faced with the "incredible challenge" of having to protect the adjacent exposures and were not able to perform any extinguishment of the flames until the electric company had turned off the power to that downed line, fire officials said. "Luckily, the fire did not extend into the home or any other adjacent structures. While crews were still on (the) scene of the first fire, a second 911 call came in at (11:01 p.m.) for a slight smoke condition in the basement located at 65 Forest Rd," fire officials wrote on social media.
