Voters have a little work to do at a special town meeting next week as they will decide whether the town will purchase two brand new firefighting vehicles for the Avon Volunteer Fire Department.
The town meeting is Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. at Avon High School, 510 West Avon Road, in the auditorium.
In two separate questions, voters are being asked to bond $1.259 million for a new pumper tanker truck and $2.172 million for a new ladder truck.
The existing models currently being utilized by the AVFD are in excess of 20 years old and proponents say it is better to replace now than undertake expensive repairs and renovations for the older models. The tax impact because of the proposal varies depending on what each taxpayer pays, but the amount is expected to be measured in the tens of dollars annually.
