A driver walked away with no reported injuries from a fiery Monday night crash that shut down part of Hillandale Road. First responders were called to the area of Hillandale and Long Meadow Hill roads around 9:50 p.m. after a vehicle collided with a telephone pole. The base of the pole caught fire and the driver managed to get out of the vehicle before firefighters and EMS arrived, according to dispatch reports. Firefighters at the scene said the roadway was icy and requested a public works truck to come sand it. Eversource was called in to shut off power to the damaged pole so that firefighters could extinguish the blaze. After being evaluated by medical personnel at the scene, the driver reported no injuries and refused to be transported to the hospital for further medical attention, according to dispatch reports.
