Firefighters responded to a report of a tree and power lines fire in the Sandy Hook section of town Tuesday morning.
The fire was reported near the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Deerfield Drive around 10 a.m.
“The primary (wire) is touching a tree, and the tree itself is burning,” a firefighter on scene said.
The area was blocked off at the intersection of Toddy Hill and Still Hill roads, and Eversource was called to the scene.
A firefighter said approximately 120 feet of wires were on the ground burning, as well as a “good part of the tree,” at 10:17 a.m. — but there was nothing first responders could do until Eversource shut off the power. Eversource did not get to the scene until 11 a.m.
