Fort Carson will begin prescribed burnings on the training areas and Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site beginning near the end of March through Monday, April 15, depending on the weather. The burns are being conducted by Fort Carson’s Directorates of Emergency Services and Public Works Conservation Branch to reduce the potential for wildland fires. They are meticulously planned and carried out to reduce dense vegetation, which may cause and worsen wildland fires. Smoke may be visible along the Interstate 25 and Highway 115 corridors from Colorado Springs to Pueblo or along Highway 350 in Las Animas County. Each prescribed burn is evaluated for the potential impact on surrounding areas and planned to minimize the health effects of smoke on those living nearby.
