Crews are investigating an incident Monday evening when a car drove off the road and burst into flames. According to a post from the Berthoud Fire Protection District, at 5:52 p.m. Monday crews were dispatched to an accident on Mountain Avenue just west of 10th Street with a vehicle off the road and fully consumed in flames. When crews arrived, the single occupant of the car had exited the flaming vehicle, only sustaining minor injuries. The driver was treated by Thompson Valley Emergency Medical Services and transported to an area hospital. According to the post, crews put out the fire with water and foam, and had the fire under control at 6:06 p.m. The post added it appeared the vehicle had veered off the road and collided with a tree prior to bursting into flames. May Soricelli, public information officer with the fire district, said the case has been turned over to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
