The Vacaville Fire Department plans to conduct wildland training burns on Tuesday, Thursday, and May 27 on Callen Hill, it has been announced.
The training will start at 8 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. each day, a spokesman for the department, Dustin Kuntz, said in a press release.
No road closures are planned during the training, he added in the prepared statement.
The exercises, planned for the hilly area between Callen Street and Allison Drive, are meant to train firefighters on the use of “firing operations and firefighter skills for our recruit academy,” added Kuntz. This burn will allow for other neighboring fire agencies to train together in a controlled setting while removing some 15 acres of grass. Smoke will be visible in town and from both the Interstate 80 and 505 freeways, he noted, adding that four to five engines will be on scene during the training.
