Los Angeles County firefighter dies from injuries battling Rancho Palos Verdes fire

A Los Angeles County firefighter died Thursday, responding to a fire in Rancho Palos Verdes, according to officials. The call came in shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday for a fire in a building on the 30700 block of Tarapaca Road. According to LA County Fire, the man was critically injured on the scene and transported to the hospital in critical condition. He did not survive his injuries. According to LA County Fire Department Interim Chief Anthony Marrone, preliminary investigation suggests that the fire was contained to the attic of the building, where the firefighter was "overcome by smoke." His fellow firefighters were able to remove him from the building and attempted to treat him before he was transferred to the hospital. According to LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn, LA County Fire was able to rescue the family inside the burning building.
