Cal Fire is asking residents to evacuate if near the Dixie Fire burning in Butte and Plumas counties, saying they might not be able to rescue people who choose to stay home.
As of Friday morning, the Dixie Fire had burned 142,940 acres and was 18% contained, according to Cal Fire. More than 4,000 personnel are assigned to the fire.
Cal Fire said crews will continue to use old control lines from previous wildfires to help contain the Dixie Fire. The fire is expected to continue to move northeast.
Another fire has sparked near the community of Keddie in Plumas County on Thursday afternoon, Cal Fire said. The newer fire, called the Fly Fire, has also forced evacuations and threatened homes. It ignited in the area of Highway 70 and Butterfly Valley-Twain Road, north of Quincy.
