VIDEO: During any fire training or academy, the most utilized tool is water, but it can put a strain on city resources.
“The problem that we were facing is we don’t have a place that we can recycle the water,” Northwest Fire District Engineer Brandon Emmons said, “That’s water coming from the city or from fire hydrants.”
Thanks to a new “pump pod” received by the Northwest fire District, this water isn’t going down the drain and is something firefighters say could change the way water is saved during training.
“We’ve used this for about 15-16 trainings, and we’ve already accumulated over 40,000 gallons of saved water,” Emmons said.
Northwest Fire got access to a pod via a grant from the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona and firefighters say it’s a game changer.
