VIDEO: Tucson firefighters wear many hats for the community.
One of those is responding to overdoses, something they’re all too familiar with.
On Tuesday, Sept. 17, they teamed up with other community partners to go to businesses and ask for help to save lives.
In every business, you have your typical safety tools – a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. But the Tucson Fire Department is adding one more item to the list – Narcan.
“We go to these businesses, make it an offer to them for free, explain to them how to use it, how they can get more, and educate them a little bit,” Tucson Fire Department Community Risk Reduction Manager Oscar Durazo said.
The life-saving medicine quickly reverses an opioid overdose, an all-too-familiar phone call for first responders.
“The opioid crisis has hit everybody,” paramedic Jason Patrick said.
