VIDEO: Valley Vista High School students are getting hands-on experience in becoming certified emergency medical technicians.
“They’re gonna learn trauma patient management, CPR, how you handle respiratory and cardiovascular emergencies,” said Surprise Fire-Medical Battalion Chief Larry Subervi.
Through Dysart Unified School District’s brand new career and technical education class, nearly 20 students will participate in the yearlong course.
Once complete, they can go straight from the classroom into careers within the EMS field.
“When the kids graduate from this program, they’re going to be nationally certified so they’re going to be able to work on an ambulance,” said Jim Grieshaber, director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) at Dysart Schools.
In partnership with the city, firefighters and emergency medical staff teach these students everything they need to know.
