Firefighters are battling a wildfire that broke out overnight just west of State Route 87 in the Tonto National Forest.
Forest officials said fire crews responded to the blaze that was caused by a lightning strike near mile marker 213 on SR-87 in steep, rugged terrain. They said the area is not easy to access.
The wildfire, now named the Quartz Fire, is burning about 25 acres. Traffic is not affected on SR-87. Firefighters are working from Forest Service Road 1333, and drivers are asked to avoid that area for their safety and the safety of first responders.
