VIDEO: A local nonprofit is providing mental health support to first responders, and that is Something Good. Since July of last year, the 100 Club of Arizona has provided $1.2 million for Arizona’s law enforcement, firefighters and retirees. The nonprofit helps fund group training and individual counseling requested by different departments. The 100 Club of Arizona believes that a career in public safety is inherently challenging due to constant exposure to trauma. From losing colleagues to calls to difficult scenes, many traumas go untreated and, even worse, buried inside. “I’ve had about 18 years on the job, and half of that has been as a captain,” Bryan Sockrider from the Mesa Fire Department said. “By seeking these mental health services and making my life better through resilience training, I really saw an opportunity to help our own membership.”
