Tuesday, Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority crews were dispatched to a wildland fire in the area of Smoki Trail in Chino Valley. Fire crews arrived on scene to find an approximately three-quarter acre wind-driven wildfire with a moderate rate of spread towards neighboring houses. Crews controlled and contained the fire with hand tools and then remained on scene for several hours checking for hot spots. All structures were protected and there were no reported injuries. CAFMA has responded to three wildfires in the past seven days. Around 85% of U.S. wildfires are caused by humans each year. CAFMA would like to remind community members that the burning of yard waste requires a burn permit, which can be obtained by visiting Yavapai Burn Permits. It is also important that burn permit holders confirm on the site that it is a “burn day” before starting a burn.
