PHOTOS: Firefighters from two cities extinguished flames that were smoldering above the child care area at an Ahwatukee fitness center on Wednesday, authorities said.
Crews from Phoenix and Chandler responded before noon after smoke detectors and sprinklers went off at the LA Fitness at 48th Street and Chandler Boulevard, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
Smoke was coming from the drop-down ceiling above the gym’s child care area. Firefighters put out the fire and used fans to blow the smoke out of the building. The gym sustained water and smoke damage, but nobody was injured.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the club’s website said the entire facility would be closed for repairs until 8 a.m. Thursday.
