The Mesa Fire and Medical Department has released the cause of an apartment fire that sent a woman to the hospital over the weekend. Investigators said on Tuesday a candle was left burning when the woman went to sleep at her place on Alma School Road just north of Southern Avenue. Her apartment caught fire and firefighters were called out there on Saturday morning. When she tried to get out, the fire was everywhere and she suffered significant burns, fire crews said. The victim was taken to the County Burn Unit. Firefighters put the fire out before it spread to other units, but the woman's apartment was a total loss. Mesa Fire didn't have an update on the woman's condition.
