PHOTOS: Hundreds gathered to honor Mesa firefighter Nikki Sullivan at a funeral in Gilbert on Friday. A 10-mile funeral procession began at Bunker Family Garden Chapel in downtown Mesa and ended at Sun Valley Community Church, near Ray and Gilbert roads in Gilbert. Outside the church, two fire engines with their ladders fully extended held a large American flag, while other fire engines lined Ray Road. Dozens of firefighters, first responders, and police officers in full uniform filled the church in preparation for the funeral services. Family and friends spoke about Sullivan — the mother, wife, friend, and firefighter. Many shared funny stories while others struggled to hold back tears.
