Another baby box has been installed in central Arkansas. The East End Fire Department, based in Little Rock, is the latest location to receive a Safe Haven Baby Box. Safe Haven Baby Boxes are places for parents to anonymously and safely leave a baby that they’re unable to care for. The purpose of the boxes is to prevent unsafe abandonment and make sure the babies get the care they need. “It’s important because we’re in a rural area, so right at this moment, this furthest east point, there is one of these boxes that I’m aware of,” Easy End Fire Department Chief Darrell Feagan said. “So, the southern part of the state has an opportunity to come here, without going into the city. it just makes things easier on folks.” This is the 25th box to be installed in the state.
