VIDEO: One fire department has an extra set of wheels for future calls. The Batesville Fire Department received the new truck earlier this month. This much-needed upgrade comes after the older model experienced too much wear and tear with one firefighter noting that the hose was “dry-rotted.” Captain Randy Jones explained the reasons behind the upgrade, emphasizing the importance of staying on top of maintenance. “We’re really good at keeping maintenance up but trucks just get older with time,” Jones explained. “It costs more money to put into them than it is to buy a newer truck.” Jones emphasized that the new truck, while a simpler model, is adequately equipped for fighting fires. He stressed the importance of keeping their trucks up to date. “It’s life or death; we got to have an up-to-date truck because everything we do is life or death,” Jones stated.
