One person was injured and taken to the hospital yesterday afternoon after a residential fire on East Main Street in Batesville. The Batesville Fire Department said there was one occupant in the house fire when it started yesterday around 4:30 p.m. A fire department spokesperson said the occupant was taken by ambulance to the hospital due to smoke inhalation. His condition was not considered to be life-threatening. The spokesperson said firefighters were on the scene for about six hours. The residence is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the spokesperson. In a post on social media, the BFD thanked the Northside Volunteer Fire Department and the Southside Volunteer Fire Department for their mutual aid and assistance during the fire.
