On Tuesday, October 8, 2019, only 61 of the 1,400 members of the Glen Rose Fire Department turned out to vote in an election to raise the membership dues from $50 to $75, an increase of $25 per year.
Of those 61 voters, 29 voted for the increase and 32 voted against the increase. The proposal failed by a 3 vote margin.
The purpose for the proposed increase was to allow the department to increase its quality of service by increasing its ISO rating allowing members a lower insurance rate by most insurance agencies. The department also hoped to upgrade firefighter safety equipment not upgraded by grant funds.
As of press time there are currently no immediate plans to hold another election.
