A Mount Holly man was killed over the weekend in a house fire that also left the mobile home he resided in destroyed.
Michael R. Arberry, 50, was pronounced dead early Sunday morning after his residence at 12382 Highway 82 (Magnolia Highway) became engulfed in flames shortly before midnight. His residence sat on the border between Columbia and Union County.
Firefighters from the Village Volunteer Fire Department were the first to respond; the Mount Holly and Cairo VFDs were contacted when Village firefighters, based in Columbia County, realized Arberry’s residence was inside Union County’s borders.
By midnight, five VFDs were working to extinguish the flames – Village, Calhoun and Four Corners from Columbia County, alongside Mount Holly and Cairo, both based in Union County. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
