Wynne Fire Department holds aerial training class to further educate firefighters

On Monday, the Wynne Fire Department hosted an aerial operations class to provide their firefighters with a better understanding of their ladder truck. The training program helps the officers know where they can and cannot put the truck and its limitations, ensuring citizens’ safety. This is a mandatory five-day training program for firefighters in Region 8 to get educated and enhance their skills. According to the fire chief of the city of Wynne, it is crucial to be prepared to protect the community to the best of their ability. “It’s important for us because if we’re not prepared to protect our community, we can’t do that to the utmost ability so any opportunity we get to educate we try to,” said Chief Kory Ward. He believes that education is the key to achieving this goal.

Rockport firefighter named firefighter of the month

Rockport firefighter Dominic Alexander was named the March volunteer firefighter of the month by 1-800BoardUp. Alexander displays exceptional work ethic and call response, as well as leadership among the other firefighters. Fire Chief Damon Dyer said Alexander “is the go-to mentor among the younger firefighters, and he unselfishly donates his time to the team by providing training and equipment maintenance.” On top of his commitment to firefighting, Alexander is also a U.S. war veteran serving three tours of duty where he has received multiple awards and recommendations for his service to the community and our country. He has currently completed 30 years of service with the fire department, and it is his positive attitude that has created what the chief says is the foundation of what their department is today.
